About Us

In 1984, CMI founder Neil Murphy taught a dBase II course at George Washington University. Serendipitously, three of his students just happened to be employees of the then fledgling MCI. That teacher-student relationship was to burgeon into a long-term professional relationship establishing CMI as a leading provider of telecommunications computing solutions.

Murphy's first project for MCI took all of 12 hours. That success quickly led to referrals to other MCI groups needing his programming expertise. At that time, MCI was gearing up for a huge marketing challenge: the onset of court-ordered "Equal Access" that marked the end of AT&T's lock on long distance services.

MCI's rapid growth fueled a similarly growing need for effective computing solutions. Murphy soon began to hire staff to help with his programming and application development business

CMI's first "staffers" were former MCI employees who had become new mothers and wanted to work part-time from home. Murphy ran ads in local newspapers - long before the "telecommuting" job category was given a formal name. "What source of talent I found," says Murphy. "People felt it was to good to be true!"

CMI's talented programming and development staff has completed over 500 projects and acquired a unique understanding of telecommunications operational requirements. This expertise has earned CMI a reputation for designing cost-effective and powerful telecommunications computing solutions.

Today, CMI capabilities extend into every area of IT, with over 750 computer professional to reliably solve any problem.
